When to Replace Your HVAC System
HVAC systems are designed to operate at temperatures at or below 95 degrees and, ideally, last an average of 12-16 years. In Georgia, temperatures above 90 degrees are typical in the summer months, systems often begin to fail at between ten to twelve years. So, when should an HVAC system be replaced?
There are no specific rules for replacement because all systems and situations are different. However, consider the following recommendations:
Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
You should consider replacing it with a new unit. Installed correctly, our high-efficiency units can save thousands on heating and cooling costs.
Your furnace is more than 15 years old.
You should consider replacing with a new high-efficiency furnace that will lower your utility bills and keep your home comfortable.
Your equipment needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are going up.
Your cooling or heating equipment may have become less efficient. The cost to use and maintain a failing system is often higher than the cost to replace your system.
Some rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
Improper equipment operation, duct problems or inadequate insulation could be the cause. Our technicians and quickly diagnose and repair these issues and make your whole home comfortable.
Your home has humidity problems.
Poor equipment operation, inadequate or over-sized equipment, and leaky ductwork can cause the air to be too dry in the winter or too humid in the summer.
Your home has excessive dust.
Leaky ducts can pull dust particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and blow them throughout your home. Our technicians can find damaged ducts to lower dust and improve the air quality in your home.
Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
Depending on the source of the noise, you could have a failing unit or simply an undersized duct system.
Compressor Failure.
Whenever a major component, such a compressor, fails and the system is 8 or more years old, replacement is recommended.
HVAC Installation
If you choose to replace your HVAC system, full installation typically takes 6 to 8 hours. If we need to replace the ductwork, installation may take longer.
During system installation, All Weather HVAC technicians will do the following:
- Ensure proper duct sizing and duct condition.
- Ensure there are a sufficient number of supply registers to deliver air throughout the home, as well as a sufficient number of return air registers.
- Verify that the newly installed air conditioner has the exact refrigerant charge and airflow rate specified by the HVAC manufacturer.
- Install a new thermostat for proper temperature control.
Choosing a New HVAC System
Proper size and installation are critical to air conditioner efficiency. A unit that is too large will not adequately control humidity; conversely, a unit that is too small will not sufficiently cool a home during the summer months. It is important to choose a system that is efficient for the size of your home. All Weather Heating & Air’s HVAC specialists can help you choose the system.
